I’ve been trying out and looking for different beauty products that are easy on my budget but also that I enjoy using and are worthy of a switch. After trying out different products, I pulled together the ones I am using daily, and to be truthful, I cannot tell a big difference from the more expensive products I was using. Surprisingly, these new products have made my makeup and complexion look much better, and I couldn’t wait to share them with you girls! Many of you may be like me and looking for different ways to cut back, and if that is so, these may be a few products you want to try. I have to mention this product as well. This is the E.L.F. Halo Glow Liquid Filter. I bought this in three colors: light, medium, and a darker color for contouring, just to see how I could mix and match them for sculpting and highlighting. This product is only $14, and it is as good as any high-end product, in my opinion. It’s infused with hyaluronic acid, so it’s working on your skin all day long and gives you a beautiful glow! See the Halo Glow Filter here. **Over 4.7K reviews! Another product that I am using daily is the NYX Wonderstick for Faceshaping and Contouring. This little duo is the easiest contouring stick I have ever used! It’s only $11 and has a 20% coupon attached to it, not to mention that it has over 28K reviews with a 4-star rating! This is a great product to try for the price! See all the color combos available here. Another NYX product that I always keep, is this neutral eyeshadow palette. This is the Ultimate Neutral Palette, and I literally grab this nearly every day because the neutrals are perfect for any eye color and great for an everyday work look. This palette is only $17 and has over 35.3K reviews! See the palette here. Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today! I hope you enjoyed the post on makeup. I can say this…I look forward to getting ready every day now, and it’s been fun trying out new items that are budget-friendly, especially when they are just as good, if not better than major brands. I hope everyone has a wonderful Friday and weekend. Can you believe Thanksgiving is next week? It seems this month is flying by so quickly! Is anyone traveling for the holiday or are you doing all the cooking? 😉 I’m doing both, LOL! Stay safe and be blessed! XOXO

I love living in North Carolina, but there are a few things that are somewhat of a pain to deal with. The biggest for me is the humidity, with naturally curly/wavy hair, fighting the instant heat and humid weather when going outside can take a great hair day to one of my worst. Have you noticed the bun style is a go-to for me? That’s mainly for a quick easy hairstyle working from home, but it is also the answer to my hair curling when it rains or the humidity level is as high as Jack’s Beanstalk! It gets that bad at times! Nothing can ruin freshly styled hair or a full face of makeup quite like humidity can. And the humidity in North Carolina is intense all summer long. And over the years, I’ve had to figure out some of the best ways for managing humidity and still maintaining my hairstyle + makeup. Humidity can cause frizz and unwanted and volume that can be out of control. Or it can totally weigh down and flatten your freshly styled locks to look like your hair has suddenly stuck to your head. In general, my hair flattens and gets limp in humidity (although my longer bangs can have a wave and curl all of their own – which is sooo annoying ) so a lot of my choices for combatting the negative effects of humidity are done in order to keep my hair from completely deflating and looking heavy in the heat. My Tips and Tricks Sometimes, the least amount of product the better, especially if humidity makes your hair flat. The goal is to keep your hands out of your hair so try to use just enough product for the desired result, set your hair in place, and then keep your hands off of it! This is not my strong point…just saying, lol! If you are fighting frizz, use a cream-based product before you blow-dry. This is usually heavy enough to add a bit of weight and hold to the airy flyaways. This may sound crazy, but I’m a believer in it! I rarely wash my hair in the shower, in my opinion, my hair never does well and it looses its volume even in the winter. So, I normally shower at night and wash my hair in the sink in the mornings. I use a cream based conditioner, but I only apply it halfway down the shaft of my hair and focusing on the ends. If I put it on my roots, my hair flattens with an hour of blowdrying. I also love the Redken Oil For All and apply it to ONLY my roots while wet. If it will be very humid, I use 1 pump, grab a towel to get the excess off my hands then rake my fingers through my hair to give it a little shine and help with frizz. To get volume I need, I typically left my hair dry in a towel till it is about 80% dry. I flip my head over and dry it Then I start drying it, lifting it up at the roots at the crown of my head sides, and back with a wide pick. This helps keep my volume during the day. To get volume I need, I typically let my hair dry in a towel till it is about 80% dry. Play the fun video (for kicks-real life going one, ha!!), and don’t mind the unfinished “renovation” going on in the back. We will finish up once the kids have moved! 🙌🏼 Also, you can see that I have had the same haircut for many years, only the length changes. In the summertime, I try very hard not to use hairspray, but sometimes its a necessity! I seriously feel this weighs it down and when the humid heat grabs hold, it seems to make things worse on my hair. However, if all else fails, spray a toothbrush with some hairspray and comb the flyaways around your face and part down. The small bristles shouldn’t affect your style too much, and the hairspray should hold everything in place! Amika’s The Shield is my favorite aerosol product to spray on my styled hair before I finish with hairspray. Used on straight or curled hair, it’s a big help to keep frizz at bay without adding weight to the hair for those who like volume. Virtue’s Create Lifting Powder is my choice for adding thickness and bulk without loading up on a texture spray during the humid season. I love texture spray, don’t get me wrong, but on a humid day, I find that a little powder at my roots is enough to add a “pop” to the hair without coating it too much. Not pictured, but worth mentioning, is Kenra Volume 25 hairspray. It does help fight humidity, I apply a small amount when using, but gives a firm hold to the hair, and is one of my very favorite hairsprays! When it comes to makeup, use a makeup primer that you love and set your makeup with a setting spray. Urban Decay’s All Nighter is one of the strongest, most effective setting sprays I’ve used when it comes to maintaining your makeup in humidity. Another favorite is Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray, this is what I have been using for the past few months, and I have not had any problems, in fact, it is one of the best setting sprays I’ve used since I started branching out. What are your favorite products to combat humidity? Sharing is caring…LOL! Have a great day ladies and I have a HUGE surprise coming up and I know you are going to love it, because Barry will be in an upcoming blog post. So you will get to see us in action…HAHA!
why we give gifts at christmas

I had a talk with Brooklyn this weekend, asking her why we celebrate Christmas and she quickly responded it was Jesus’s birthday! When I asked her why we give gifts, she said…”Because I’m good and I like lots of presents!” I was rolling on the floor at this point – the things that kid says! HA! So I shared with her the entire story of the birth of Jesus, she listened here and there but caught right on when I told her he received gifts. My brother happened to come over and spend a little time with me and he was saying he wasn’t buying gifts for his siblings this year. Wait…what? No gifts? He said at our age what do we really need? I had to remind him why we give gifts also, even if it’s a tin of brownies or a pair of fluffy socks! Why We Give At Christmas Shortly after Jesus was born, a small group of men traveled hundreds of miles to pay Him homage and give Him gifts. When they finally discovered Him, the Bible says, “they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh” (Matthew 2:11). Although we can’t be certain, over the centuries the example of those “wise men” (as we usually call them) probably contributed to our modern custom of giving gifts at Christmas. Unfortunately, we’ve almost forgotten the meaning of those original gifts. They were given to honor Jesus—but all too often today, our gift-giving has become self-centered and materialistic, or even burdensome. Let us all see it instead as an opportunity to express love and respect for others. In honor of Jesus! In the busyness of this season, remember that we show love and appreciation to our friends and families for all they do for us. Something we may take for granted during the year, we can say “thank you and I love you” with something small and meaningful.

One thing I am asked the most from ladies is what hair products do I use for volume. My hair is fine and thin, but you would never know it to look at any of my pictures. Most of you that follow me know that I was behind the chair as a stylist for a while and I have a love for all things hair and beauty. Today I want to share the products that I use daily to keep my locks healthy and voluminous. We will talk about shampoos later in the post, but let’s talk about what products I put in my hair after shampooing. Root Boost is the most important product I use to give me lift and to keep my hair bouncy throughout the day. I have been using Big Sexy Root Boost for years and I will not be changing. I recently ordered 5 new products to review and none of them held up in comparison to Big Sexy. How Do I Use It? Have towel-dried hair and spray at the roots. I section off about an inch of hair and spray my roots, do this throughout your scalp. After you have sprayed it in, take fingertips and work it into your scalp and ends. **When drying your hair, dry your roots first, I use a hair pick to lift up my roots and I blow dry roots first then blow dry on warm the rest of my hair. Let hair cool before using any styling tools, use a protectant like this before adding any heat to your dried hair. Once you have curled or styled your hair, I love using the Kenra Dry Volume Blast. It holds, it keeps roots lifted throughout the day and you will still have volume for second-day hair. Lift sections, spray, let dry and style hair accordingly. This rates 5-stars for me! It’s an awesome product and I will not go without it! The shampoo of choice is Big Sexy Extra Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner. The Big Sexy line is formulated to work together and as you build on the products, the better your results will be. ** Big Sexy products are Buy 2 Get 1 Free right now, shop here. Redken Diamond Oil is ESSENTIAL to stop split-ins. I do not use this throughout my hair, I only use one pump in my palm and apply to my wet ends before drying. Guaranteed to help your hair with shine and fewer split-ends. I do use a clarifying shampoo every other shampoo. Why? Product build-up and to keep my locks healthy. I want my hair to be as healthy as possible and to stay on my head. At 50 years old, the hair will start thinning out due to menopause. Rotating my shampoos helps keep “gunk” off my strands. My favorite is Paul Mitchell Clarifying Shampoo 3. NOTE: I only wash my hair twice a week. If you are washing your hair daily, only use this product every 3rd shampoo at the most. Try to go every other day with your shampoos, it’s hard at first, your hair will feel dirty the second day. The longer you go, your hair will feel cleaner and have more bounce and shine. It takes a week or so to get this feeling, but it will happen. What hair products do you love most? Are you looking for a great gift for a daughter? These are on sale right now for only $19.99! See them here. Have a blessed day! Thanks for stopping by the blog today! I’m taking Mom to her first Orthopedic appointment about her shoulder since her fall. Pray she will heal quickly!

Unlike wine and cheese, sadly…our bodies are not made to get better with age. Sighhhh! From seeing our first wrinkle around the eye to our hair thinning from having children or menopause – we cannot stop the aging process. But…we can reverse some things! Today I am sharing a few thing that are absolute must-haves for me! Over the past five years, I have made a point to start taking better care of myself. From healthy eating and exercising to nourishing my skin and hair, I take each thing I do very seriously these days. I’m not going to lie ladies…I do not like getting older, but I cannot stop what is inevitable. I can, however, treat things that are not like they used to be and at least give the illusion of a more youthful appearance. 1. Exfoliate to a younger YOU! As I entered my 40’s, I started to notice my skin becoming drier, anyone else?? I learned about dry brushing and the benefits, read that post here, so I added that into my self-love routine. That’s when I learned about exfoliating and how important it is as we get older. Removing all those dead skin cells is imperative when fighting the aging process. I have two scrubs that I use regularly that I LOVE! Micro-Dermabrasion Paste by Rodan and Fields, this can be used on your face and body – it’s a sugar and salt formula that reveals smooth skin and helps with uneven skin tone. The second is Herbivore Coco Rose Coconut Oil Body Polish. I like using this one in the bathtub, the smell is AWESOME and it gets me in a spa-like state of mind and I tend to relax more. The coconut oil and Moroccan rose hydrate the skin while chunky grains leave you feeling thoroughly exfoliated. 2. Under Eye Bags? Say Bye-Bye! I have always struggled with sensitive eyes, which resulted in puffy eyes and under-eye bags…the struggle has been REAL! I have always been careful with my skincare and makeup products because of my allergies and having babies, being tired, and aging has not helped. I have purchased product after product to decrease under-eye puffiness and I was wasting my money. I would throw away tubes and bottles of $$ staright out the door; drawers full of unused products because nothing was giving me a quick fix. Yes…I wanted a quick fix and I really wasn’t wanting to wait 6 months to see a change. I finally found Dr. Brandt Needles NO MORE BAGGAGE eye de-puffing gel and believe me…it works instantly! You can feel the skin underneath your eyes tightening up. If you struggle with this, you WILL want to try this product. It takes 10 years off of you instantly! 3. Say Good Bye to Age Spots! Do you suffer from age spots on your legs or chest? You are going to want to read this! I recently purchased Westmore Beauty Body Coverage Perfector just for fun. It sat in the box for at least a month before I took it out and took some interest in using it. I put a little of this on my legs and rubbed it all over and instantly my legs looked young again. I am 50 years old and I have sun damage from being a sun lover in my younger years – well, I have loved the sun every year of my life! HA! My daughter, Raegan, took notice and was stunned as I was with the results. If you are self-conscious of your legs or your chest, this is a product that you need in your life! If you are going to a special event or you just want your legs to look younger, give this product a try! This product stays on for about 3 days, takes very little product to get great coverage, and there is no streaking!! This is a best seller on QVC plus there are no subscriptions! 4. Lashes Are A Must! Before I started using Lash Boost by R and F, I literally had NO lashes! My lashes were obsolete, so I never purchased mascara…why should I? There was nothing to apply it to! Once my lashes started growing, I wanted to flutter those lashes occasionally at my hubby, so I set out to find the best mascara. I have tried at least 30 brands and settled on 2 that really delivers! My all-time favorite is Younique’s Moonstruck Epic mascara, the application is easy and quick. I am getting older so seeing my lashes to apply product is a bit harder these days. This mascara grabs the lash, no clumping, and gives volume and length. The second favorite is Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. This is the #1 Selling Mascara in America, so that should say a lot about the product! This formula thickens, lengthens, and curls after just one coat for the most luscious, dramatic, and volumized lashes possible. If you haven’t tried it…give it a try! 5. Thinning Hair? Let’s Talk! I do not know many women who enter into their 40’s that are not experiencing thinning hair. When I started seeing my hair thin, I immediately stepped into “fix it” mode. Being a former hairdresser, I knew the importance of keeping my hair nourished and strong. I started washing my hair every 2-3 days instead of daily, I started taking Biotin, Vitafusion Extra Strength Biotin 5000mcg Gummies are ALWAYS at my house. I take 2 a day without fail! This stuff works girls! We lose hairs daily and that is normal, what we want, is to keep it on our heads and not break off. Start using an old t-shirt to wrap your hair in instead of a towel. It’s less harsh on your hair which will result in less breakage and if you have curly hair it will stop the frizz! I use a thickening shampoo and conditioner to help bulk up my hair, I am always getting asked how I get volume – this is part of the process! A good shampoo to use to help thicken your locks is Amika 3D Volume Plus Thickening Shampoo and make sure you follow up with Amika 3D Volume Plus Thickening Conditioner – these work together to give you bounce, volume and shine! What is a product that you can’t go without since you turned 40? Shop The Post JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. Reactivate it to view this content. Thanks for stopping by the blog and I hope your day is fabulous! Stay safe ladies!! XOXO Be sure to Pin anything you like to Pinterest, as this helps me grow as a new blogger.

Happy Wednesday ladies! How is your week going? I got to share something that happened to me here recently with my hair. You girls know I am very OCD about the products I use on my hair. At least once a month I like to write a post about hair care or current hairstyles. I love to review products and believe me…I’m going to shoot straight from the hip. I recently used a sample of shampoo that was sent from Influenster and it was horrible! This shampoo dried my hair out within 3 uses. I could feel my hair feeling “wirey” each time I used it. Since I wash my hair about 3 times a week, when the week was up, I literally wanted to cry. After the 3rd shampoo is when I really noticed it and knew I had to repair my hair ASAP! The name of the shampoo is MINU. It states on the bottle: Illuminating protective shampoo for colored hair. This is a total FRAUD! That’s me keeping it real LOL! This left my hair dry, tangling easy and my hair totally felt like “last year’s bird’s nest”. That’s dry ladies! I used Redken Diamond Oil to help bring life back into my hair, but I also used Redken Extreme AntiSnap to help repair my hair. Here are some Shampoos I have used since Cosmetlogy School that I have strong comfidenece in! Top Repairing Products If your hair is deeply damaged, this is one of the best-repairing shampoos around. It is designed to restore damaged hair to better health. It achieves that by restructuring your hair from within. It makes it possible for your hair to regain strength, shine and become revitalized. The most unique thing about this range from L’Oreal is that it contains Neofibrine, a unique combination of a shine-perfecting agent. It also comes with a UV filter so your hair is protected from further damage. I also recommend the Série Expert Absolut Repair Lipidium Mask in this line also. It worked wonders on Raegan’s hair from over processing. Bumble and Bumble have been a favorite of mine for years. It’s an ultra-mild, moisture-rich cleanser for those who regularly color, straighten, or perm their hair. This super-charged formula gently cleanses and repairs damage without stripping color, wilting perms, or reverting chemically straightened hair. For most intense care, pair with Mending Conditioner, Complex, and Masque. This product is compatible with color-treated hair. Bumble and bumble is a cruelty-free brand, meaning they don’t test on animals. BB products are free from parabens, phthalates, mineral oils, and formaldehyde so that’s a huge plus in my book too! Now, if you are looking and thinking about the Bumble and Bumble products, then I would also suggest Bumble and Bumble While You Sleep Damage repair Masque. If have been following me, then you know I have been working on my hair for over a year and this is a product that has helped, although Raegan (my teenage daughter) steals my products constantly..ha!! So I’m letting ya know that this helped her along with a couple more on this list with her over-processed hair. You girls already know that I’m in love with the Redken Extreme AntiSnap products to help with my ends splitting and now I[‘m going to tell you about this shampoo. Quench your distressed hair’s thirst with Redken Extreme Shampoo. the lush formula is emollient rich and works by restoring and cleansing to leave your hair visibly healthier and easier to manage. It is formulated as a fortifying shampoo for damaged hair or distressed hair, especially for those with weakened strands and wants to strengthen hair. The entire line is actually awesome! Sebastian Professional Penetraitt Shampoo is essential care for your damaged hair. Helps strengthen any look, while removing and guarding it against stress caused by past chemical treatments and heat damage. Sebastian comes to your hair’s rescue with this colour safe and deep conditioning, fortifying and strengthening shampoo. I’ve used Sebastian products on and off since I was in Cosmetology school and it is a good line, one that I definitely recommend. If you do decide to pick one of these shampoos then I highly recommend getting the entire system, it works together and will strengthen your hair over time. Give your hair strength with this Pureology Strength Cure Shampoo that reduces breakage and brings softness to every hair on your head. With its 100% vegan ingredients, it will strengthen the fiber in your hair and remove dull residue. These are some of the reasons why it is considered as one of the best shampoos in the market, in addition to being one of the top 5 repairing shampoos. Pureology is a great professional line and they also have a hair masque called Pureology Strength Cure Superfood Treatment Mask….it’s one of the top hair masks in my opinion. Which of these top 5 repairing shampoos have you tried? Do have any other shampoo designed for damage repair that you highly recommend? I love getting your feedback on my blogs, please drop a comment below! Thanks for stopping by the blog today!! Shop The Post JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser.

Happy Hump Day ladies!! It has been one busy little week for me so far. I just got off a Zoom call with Tania from 50 Is Not Old and some other teammates for Rodan + Fields; I can honestly say – I LOVE my weekly calls with these ladies. They are so funny and it’s just like sitting around your kitchen table talking to a bunch of your girlfriends. You know that we are getting ready for our big event Friday night, so hopefully, I will get pics up (maybe some videos) Saturday morning – Sunday at the latest. If you are in North Carolina and near Dunn, NC – come on out and have a great time with us. We would love to meet you and shop for clothes and skincare! Not to mention we are doing Giveaways! Blog Giveaway! Since a lot of you can’t come out, I thought I would give away a jar of the Microdermabrasion Paste! Comment anything on this post – even if it’s a “Hey Girl, What’s up?”, I will enter your name in for the drawing. If you are thinking about using R+F products and become a Preferred Customer ( to be a PC, your order needs to be at least $80), I will enter your name 3 times more. I will announce the winner Sunday in the Coffee & Girl talk post! The Microdermabrasion Paste is $83.00 retail – so it’s a nice little prize to win!! Since we are a little busy this week and I have some great new outfits coming tomorrow and over the weekend, I am going to share with you how I curl my hair today. I have been asked a lot through emails here lately how I get loose and tighter curls. I thought it would be easier to combine a post for you girls that are interested in curling your hair. It’s all in the way you hold your barrel. if you want loose curls – roll your hair horizontal with at least a 1-inch barrel. If you want tighter curls, use any wand or curling iron that is smaller than a 1-inch and hold it vertical. The above picture was taken last August (I believe) and my hair was in long layers. If you have layers in your hair, it helps give more volume and bounce to your curl. If you are curious how I curl it horizontally, check out the video below. Just so you know, I am no professional with videos – but I am learning. My little YouTube channel is something I plan to work on more through the Summer. I’m a newbie, but everyone starts somewhere LOL! I wanted to post variations of the curls and volume you can get. In the first 2 pictures, I curled it with a 1-inch barrel. In the 3rd picture, I curled in with a 1 1/2 inch barrel. The 3rd picture really just has waves in it – not much curl. If you have shorter hair and want some wave in your hair – a barrel that is 3/4 inch will give you waves. If you want bouncy waves, then hold your barrel horizontally like I am in the video, it gives your roots volume plus your waves will be flowy. Like beach waves! To get tighter curls, check out this video below. My curling wands and irons have changed over the years, but I must admit, my all-time favorite wand is the T3 SinglePass Curl Professional Tapered Ceramic Styling Wand. If you want a good wand or iron that you will have for years and years, then I suggest this one. I have tried so many, and this one ranks top, then the Hot Tools 2 Inch Salon Curling Iron / Wand Ceramic Ti Tourmaline. This is a much cheaper option, but not as good as the T3. When curling your hair, unless you have very coarse hair – do not ever heat your iron higher than 400 degrees. I would suggest 350 degrees, you do not want to burn your hair or fry the ends. Hotter does not mean better and it does not mean the curl will last longer. It means you are burning your hair! Just like clothes – it takes denim a lot longer to burn with an iron than a cotton t-shirt or a silk blouse. Our hair is just like clothes – some is sturdier than others. Growing bangs out? Here are a few “go to’s” that I use when I’m in bang transition! Or sometimes simply because it’s hot and I don’t want my bangs in my face! I hope this helps those that were asking and as always thanks for stopping by the blog. I will be styling hot pink sandals tomorrow, so be sure to stop back by!!

Let’s all face facts, we have ALL had times when we weren’t sure if we were using our flat iron correctly. And we have all seen the YouTube videos of beauty bloggers burn their hair off. The one that comes to my mind, is the little girl (in Junior High School little) doing a tutorial and she accidentally burnt her hair off. She went viral and landed a spot on the Ellen show! I don’t want to do that LOL!! Although I would love to be on the set of a TV show being taped again. Yes…I said again! I was fortunate enough to be invited to the Dr. Phil show in 2005 when they taped their Christmas Giveaway Shows! I will tell you girls about that later – but – in short – it was AWESOME!!! And they gave out so much stuff – and I was on the second row – I could touch them if I stretched! That’s a whole other blog post to tell you guys about “the” trip to Hollywood! It has been a while since I used a flat iron, but I recently cut my hair shorter, so I’m back using one. You may have noticed in my pictures that my hair is shorter, I cut 4 inches off in December and another 2 inches a few weeks ago. I was having a “bad hair” day and chopped it off, now I’m living with regret! So when you’re having a bad hair day – throw it in a pony and move past the urge to cut! First and foremost, let’s talk about product because that’s a big don’t! There are certain products you want to make sure you keep out of the hair when you’re ironing and that’s anything that’s going to get too sticky. We’ve definitely seen people use hairsprays before ironing and especially something that’s got a lot of tack to it, it’s just going to make the iron stick. And to be honest, if there’s too much dampness in the hair, you’re going to kind of cook the hair. So be careful with product selection. The one that I highly recommend is the Redken Iron Shape 11. The reason is it’s specifically designed as a thermal protectant, specifically designed to go on dry hair and specifically designed to have heat tools put over it. So it’s not going to get sticky. It’s not going to get gummy and after you spray it through and comb it, you know that there’s not going to be wetness still inside of it that you’re going to cook the hair strand. Sections The next one is the actual section itself because what happens is a lot of times we just kind of go and grab up sections and roll with it. There’s kind of two don’ts here. One would be the actual section size. When we take a large section like a big, chunky, horizontal piece, the challenge is this section is too large for the heat to evenly get through the hair. So when we place the iron into the hair, what ends up happening is we’re mainly just heating the outside edges of the section and then the inside isn’t getting hot enough to be affected. So what we do to compensate is we go over this section 10-15 times to get it right. Anyone been there??? What’s happening after you go over it that many times is you are kind of superheating the outside edges and the interior is not getting the heat to straighten it ompletely. Smaller sections are actually going to be faster for you because you’re not going to have to go over the section multiple times to get the end result you’re looking for. Plus you’re less likely to fry the ends of your hair!! No frying!!! Go Diagonal Versus Horizontal My hair has more volume when I shift to more of a diagonal section. Grabbing up sections and ironing the hair in a horizontal motion tends to flatten your hair more. Pulling the iron in a diagonal motion will straighten your hair, but give you some volume. Sealing the Deal The final one is that you have to understand that the iron seals whatever goes into it into the hair. What does that mean? So if I have a strand that’s kind of fluffy and fuzzy, imagine that there’s a lot of crinkles in a section, if I take the iron and I just kind of grab a hold of it and go down the section, what I’ve now done is I’ve sealed all those crinkles into the hair because the iron actually doesn’t do the straightening. It just seals whatever you put into the iron. To avoid that is the fine teeth of your comb! Put the fine teeth of the comb into the section and then you place the iron in right behind the fine teeth. Our combs are heat resistant so you don’t have to worry about putting the iron flat against the comb and by leading with that fine teeth, what it allows us to do is to feed smooth straight hair right into the mouths of the iron. That is going to give you the best result. So again make sure you are choosing the right product, nothing that’s overly tacky or wet, make sure that you’re using the right section size, nothing too thick and of course that’s going to depend on hair density. Switching from your horizontal sections into more diagonal sections to leave some life still in the hair and then finally make sure you lead with the fine teeth of your comb so that you’re not feeding the crinkles into the iron and sealing them in. Hairspray & Hairdryers Another don’t that I see people do a lot is putting hairspray on it or anything wet on it right before you run the iron down through it. I know it’s tempting because it does make it really go down straight and maybe if you need that look for a special occasion, do it, but it really does fry the hair. It’s like sizzling your hair and it’s so bad for it so really avoid doing that on a regular basis. Another don’t is don’t blow dry and flat iron your hair. I know a lot of girls have really crazy curls and they’re really trying to tame them for a certain look. In that case, if you have to blow-dry and flatiron then you can do that but if it’s just kind of a habit, make sure that you know that you need to do that. Another tip that I have learned is to be sure that you know you need the amount of heat you’re using. So a lot of times with everything beauty, I feel like we get in habits and we just do it because that’s how we do it. So if you’re using a ton of heat but your hair curls or flattens really easy, you’re just basically frying your hair for no reason. So be sure to test every once in a while to make sure that you don’t need the amount of heat you need. The way I test would just be lower it and then see if you still get that same flat silky look that you’re going for. Happy Straightening!!! A guideline for heat.
