Today I am sharing some of the updates I have done in my kitchen and I will continue to share as I move along in the process, so be sure to check back for those changes. My home was built in the 70s and it has been in our family since it was built. In 2008, I did a total remodel of the home except for one bathroom; needless to say, my kitchen was needing a little love by 2023. Before I get into the updates, let me give you a little of the back story. I really had no intention of remodeling the house at the time in 2008. My plan was to save and do a little remodeling here and there. Then I bought a rug for my dining room and that was the catalyst that started the ball rolling. I put the rug down, then I had the bright idea of painting the dining room wall, then I thought I could paint the kitchen cabinets. And boy…was that a HUGE mistake. I had no idea what I was doing and I just slapped some paint on one of the cabinets…oh my…we had a problem! I called my brother and explained my dilemma; he came over and assessed the situation. He looked me in the eye and said…”You’re going to have to replace all of your cabinets”. My stomach dropped to the ground and apparently, my face was screaming for help! He took over from there and before I knew it, we had a completely new kitchen. Walls were removed throughout the house to an open floorplan, new flooring was laid throughout the home, bedrooms were remodeled, new molding was put up, I extended bathrooms, the garage was updated, and we just kept going until the money ran out…literally! The last thing I did was put in a fireplace with gas logs, and I don’t regret any of it. For one year, we basically were under construction and it all started from one 5×7 rug, haha! Fast forward… Somehow I found myself on the DIY side of TikTok and before I knew it, I was convinced, I could do this small update to the kitchen myself and stay on budget. This would be a quick fix until I was ready to enlarge my kitchen later on. I wanted to lighten up the kitchen to make it look bigger, but also so I could see things better. So I headed over to Amazon and picked out 3DArt Premium Stick and Peel Backsplash Wall Tiles and Very Berry Waterproof Marble Countertop Contact Paper. I have decided to paint my cabinets (the correct way) with the Nuvo All-In-One Cabinet Makeover Kit in Hearthstone. This kit is highly recommended with over 13.8K reviews averaging 4.6 stars! You may need a degreaser to clean the cabinets, painter’s tape, and something to sand the wood down a bit, but many reviews said they only used a gloss remover before painting. I went ahead and bought the following items below so I will be ready to go. More than likely I will be tackling the cabinets once Chase gets completely moved in the next week. My Before & After Pics of Countertops & Backsplash After Countertops, Backsplash & New Accent Table I purchased the 48″ Sideboard Table from Wayfair and put it together myself. It’s on sale 60% off right now; check it out here. Here is a closer look at the countertops. I snapped this picture while I was working on it to show my mom. I’m going to be honest with you…when I started the countertops, I had no clue what I was doing other than watching those TikTok videos. When I put the first piece down, it was an agonizing effort. I started at the top of the countertops instead of the edge and oh my word, pulling that contact paper up is no joke! I kept sticking it, then pulling it up, over and over till I was water wet in sweat. I finally gave up and called my son to come over to help. While he was on the way, I gave it one more shot and started from the edge rolling towards the wall and it rolled on perfectly in less than 2 minutes. I now had the hang of it and I was on my way to completing the task! Once the countertops were covered, I put the backsplash on. The backsplash is uber easy to put on and I highly recommend it for an inexpensive facelift to your kitchen or bathroom. **The countertop contact paper is thick with a gloss finish. So far, it’s been easy to clean and I have had no issues. What do you think? Should I paint the cabinets in Hearthstone or another color? All comments and recommendations and highly encouraged, lol! It’s all about the way a home smells when you first walk through the doors that makes it inviting and mine is smelling like wide open arms right now, ha! While Brooklyn and I were out shopping at Walmart, we decided to pick up a few wax melts and we ended up bringing home way more than I expected. I found this wide scent warmer and loved the look and I have already had two guests compliment on the warmer and the scents (Check out the Celeste Scent here, it is not overwhelming and a perfect mixture of scents). See my warmer here. I also picked up the cute basket for decor or storage; I think this will add a little texture to my home and the possibilities to maximize it for storage is endless! See my new basket here. The Home Edit is a brand that just launched in early July that offers sleek and stylish items to help organize your home. The Home Edit is already a huge fave for Walmart customers offering ultra sleek hangers, drawer organizers, chic food containers, beauty organizers, and more. My first purchase was the drawer organizer for kitchen utensils below, but I soon added the laundry storage system, and the beauty organizers. **My favorite is the hair tools bin! I recently found the brand, Wanda June by Miranda Lambert at Walmart and I am loving the colors and the theme! This new brand is inspired by three generations of strong women who love to entertain and this collection will add a little spice to your life and the inscriptions will leave your guests with a smile. I initially started out with the “Hot Mess” Water Bottle, but soon started adding the dishes and bakeware. My favorite is the “Hot Stuff” casserole dish. All the items are added to the carousel below. Wanda June Home features home decor like rugs, poufs, and throw pillows, along with the bakeware and more for the kitchen. I love strolling through Walmart looking at the new home items, and I literally can spend hours looking through every aisle from the kitchen to bedding. I am constantly on the lookout for home items that are trendy and affordable because even the smallest of items can give your home an entirely new look and feel. Here are a few items that are some of my favorite picks that can be added to any room of your home. The lantern and nesting tables (that can be used for storage) are my favorites! If your patio or outdoor living space needs a little pick-me-up, these items may be a great option for you. It seems I am constantly adding new items to our backyard because we spend the majority of our time enjoying that living area. Most of these items are on Rollback and something as simple as replacing a rug or outdoor lighting can make a huge impact. If you are like me, each Spring it seems I am updating my backyard, patio decor, and front porch. Outdoor living areas have become very popular over the past few years and it can get a little expensive to give your outdoor area a refresh. I am sharing some of the items that I have bought or are in my cart, or on my list of items I am loving right now. Updating your outdoor living area can get a little expensive, so I have found many items that are budget-friendly that will srpuce up your area and give you an area where you can unwind and relax. Because there is nothing better to rejuvenate your mind than relaxing in a quiet, cozy space with the sun shining and a cool breeze blowing. Wow…that makes me want to hurry up and complete my refresh attempt! Let me know if you like these items as much as I do! Set of 3 Mini Potted Plants – I love these plants to set on my outside table or even use them inside to add a little accent love! Welcome To The Patio Sign – I’m a sucker for any type of table decor with cute sayings! Great accent touch that is very affordable! Outdoor String Lights – If you have not tried outdoor string lights, I highly recommend it. The lighting is gorgeous and takes outdoor living up a notch! These have been Best Sellers in home decor on the blog for the past 2 years, and they are waterproof. Outdoor Solar Lantern – Lanterns are a great way to spruce up a space outside and give more lighting. This comes in a 1 or 2 packs. Waterproof Pillow Covers – Add a splash of color to outdoor seating! These are 40% off with more color options available, with over 3.7K reviews! Topiaries – Set of 2, 4 ft spiral topiaries for entryways, garage doors, or add them to your patio. Tabletop Fire Pit – I have this one on the way now! I have had mine for nearly 5 years and it still looks great! I add a few accent pillows each season and a few potted plants for a “come on in” look! Set of 6 Mason Jar Fairy Lights – These are the cutest! I have these sitting around on tables on the patio and we are adding them to sherperd’s post on a walkway in our backyard. These are waterproof, and mine have held up great! Home Sweet Home Doormat – I have this doormat on top of a buffalo check rug on my front porch and have really enjoyed it! I swap out my door mats every season, but this one always seems to be the one I grab on repeat. 10 ft Solar Lighted Umbrella – This umbrella is huge! It comes in several color options and has over 6K reviews. I have bought from this brand multiple times and have always had a good experience with them. I am adding a new area to my backyard for chaise lounge chairs and this is the umbrella I have in my cart! Outdoor Rug – Outdoor rugs can level up your patio instantly and I think we all buy them and end up buying new ones each season, at least I feel like i do, lol.
