Are You A Negative Nancy?

Have you ever been at work or with a bunch of friends and no matter what you are talking about, there is one person that can find the bad in everything? They are always talking negative, always complaining about something, and they literally make you feel like they are sucking the life out of the room and you?

We all know a person like that and don’t tell me you haven’t tried to elude them when you saw them coming or have seent hem calling and didn’t answer the phone. Yes, I have ignored calls, pushed off emails, turned down another aisle in Walmart just so I did not have to see them and have a conversation. I was weak girls!

We instinctively try to ward off individuals like that and the more I think about it, the more I feel bad about blowing those types of people off. Why? I may be the only person that can bring a little light and positivity into their lives. Sometimes we overthink how we should react, how we should respond to what they say. I have found to be upfront is the best way. When someone starts complaining about something, show them the positive in the situation. Sometimes it WILL be a challenge, but we can make a difference.

People who tend to see the glass half empty are dealing with underlying issues of their own. They may have had a lot of heartaches, are living in a bad marriage, who knows what they are fighting on the inside. What I do know is they have got to be hurting, they must have no outlet or they simply do not know how to deal with emotions and circumstances.

Don’t get me wrong, you will not be able to change a person with a simple gesture, or an attentive ear – but you may be the only person that can steer them in a more positive direction. Will this happen with all people? Lord NO! Some people are just hangry without being hungry! They will never change and the only thing we can do is pray that God moves in their lives and helps them in their situations no matter what it may be.

This year, one of my resolutions was to show kindness somewhere, somehow each and every day. Wouldn’t it be nice if it had a domino effect? This may not actually have any effect and the person may never cultivate a change in them or it may take years for them to start seeing things differently. But I do know that showing kindness can in some small way prick a heart and that prick can cause a crack and that crack may cause that hard heart to crumble and a loving and positive person may start protruding out and finally step out and into a happier life.

Spread a little kindness, show a little compassion, lend an ear to the heartbroken, say a prayer for the lost, and pray God uses those small steps in a mighty way! Remember one thing – you can only do so much as a person, if it brings you down and stomps on your “happy buzz” then I would suggest praying for that person. God brought them in your life for a reason – use all your resources. Keep your smile, keep the faith, have hope and show love. That is how we change the world, one person at a time!

Good Sunday morning! I am a very empathic person and easily take on the moods and feelings of those around me. I have to be careful because this can be very draining to me mentally and physically. I have found the best way to handle people that are expressing a lot of negativity or hostility is for me to pray for them from a bit of a distance. I have a tendency toward wanting to make things better for people and it gives me so much pleasure to put a smile on someones face. Ever since I was young my friends would always come to me with their problems. I sometimes think that I would have made a good counselor if I didn’t take on these feelings myself so easily. Troy is finally making some progress but still is dealing with a migraine so we won’t be attending church this morning. Thankfully our church will post a video on Facebook so I can still watch it and not feel as though I totally missed out 🙂 I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. I am taking advantage of being home a lot and doing my favorite things, cleaning and organizing!!

I am just like that Kelly!! I can listen to people’s problems easily, but some people are constantly very negative, even about smaller things. I have always been the type of person that smiles and jokes and carry’s on with everyone. I like a fun, happy environment. I learned real quick to be prayerful and keep my distance. It’s very sad that there are people out there that are hurting down deep inside so much that it comes out in the things they say. It just goes to show us, that we don’t know what everyone has gone through or their entire story. Prayer is always the best way to deal with things like that. Hope Troy feels better soon! I’m watching church on TV today also ❤️

Good post, Beverly. I know exactly what you’re talking about and, honestly, being negative all the time just drains the pure life out of you. I resolved years ago to try to see good in everything and as you do that it gets easier to do! It kinda trains your mind to go to the good instead of the doom and gloom. And I truly believe it makes you a healthier person too. Let’s go for that domino effect! Happy Sunday!
