How to Style Paperbag Shorts After 40

Good Tuesday morning! I was going through my emails and ran across a Belk email and found out they were having a big Father’s Day sale, so I decided to check it out. If you have a Belk near you, I would recommend checking them out or you can shop online for these sales. Honestly, I was a little shocked at just how big this sale was – it was big enough I took my husband back last night so he could get some new clothes.

Right now there is a Father’s Day Flash Sale going on and this sale lasts through the 12th. Also online you can get an extra 25% off regular sales. Crown & Ivy is on sale, a lot of products are Buy 1 Get 2 FREE! Barry got 3 pair of Crown & Ivy pants plus a button down shirt totaling only $60. If you are looking something for the “dad” in your life, check out the sale HERE. Women’s Crown & Ivy Buy 1 Get 2 Free – shop HERE.

I chose this pink long sleeve cardigan, you girls know how I like cardigans, so I couldn’t resist. It was one of the first things I grabbed LOL! I was in the store for at least 2 hours if not longer looking through all the sales. This cardigan comes in 11 colors and the pink one was only $19.79. These come in sizes XS-XL, I saw the whites ones are only in XS and S, so check it out if you are interested. See the cardigan HERE.

I found the cutest striped paperbag shorts with a cute tie belt and had to grab these, I gravitate towards shorts like these for some reason – who knows why lol! They are linen-like (and I love linen and comfy LOL), they have pockets and they are just very comfortable to wear around the house or to run out to get pizza or sandwiches in. I have started to like shorts a little longer and these have about a 3-inch inseam, I like 4-inch to 5-inch, but these didn’t feel too short on me. I thought the pop of pink would really bring this outfit to life! See the shorts HERE.

I have on my Essential Seamless Black Tank from Cato’s underneath my cardigan. I like wearing this tank a lot and I wear with cardigans, underneath blouses where I need more coverage (it’s a great layering piece with off the shoulder tops), or just to use as a layering piece, It’s only $7.99 and you can see it HERE. Now, I do not like to wear form fitting clothes very much and after 40, we all seem to be self-conscious about our midsections. The easiest way to be trendy, but still hide our flaws is to wear a jacket or a cardigan. I am wearing a tank that fits snug, but I could have easily worn a sleeveless shell with these shorts or pants that have this waist detail. You can even do a half-tuck with your tees and throw on a cardigan and rock the look! It’s all about illusions and camouflaging, everyone doesnt have to see what we see! Amen!

Ok, back to the outfit LOL! I styled my purse on the blog last week, it is from Burke’s Outlet, but I cannot find it anywhere online. I have found some that are similar in the Shop The Post below.

Let’s talk about these cute sandals! I have been looking for a pair of thong sandals that actually felt great on my feet. I looked all over at Myrtle Beach and couldn’t find anything that I thought was worthy of my dollars, so I have held off. I found these Rampage Trapeze Sandals at Belk and I loved them! They have some cushion in the soles, which I really like and they don’t feel funny between my toes when I walk. I am at the age, I have to have comfort – if you are older or you stand on your feet a lot then, I’m sure you feel the same way. These also come in leopard print, snakeskin, cork, white and black and they are only $19.99 as a Doorbuster! See the sandals HERE.

I have to mention these outfits I tried on for a few reasons. One – I never ever wear patterns like this, and surprisingly I really liked wearing them. I thought the palm tree shorts were so cute and fun to wear! (I’m going back today to get these since they are Buy 1 Get 2 Free! The hemline is scalloped and I think the green cardigan looked “preppy” with the shorts. I have never been a “preppy” dresser, but I really think I could get into that look here and there HA!

The skort is 50% off and it is a paisley print with coral and turquoise in it. This skort felt so good on, you can tell a difference in some brands and this brand is a very nice high-end brand here in the South. It has pockets and there is a bunch of prints available. See those HERE. I added an extra picture so you could see the detail in the skort below. I guess if I pick up playing golf with Barry this would be an acceptable outfit?? LOL

I enjoyed shopping in Belk yesterday, I have not been in that store in a while and I’m so glad I looked at my emails! The sale is honestly one of the best I have seen since Memorial Day, so this was a huge score for Barry and I! Hope you girls have a great day and thanks so much for stopping by the blog! I am off yet again to head to the mall to find some jeans and cropped pants to style. I know a lot of you wear jeans or ankle pants during the summer, so I want to look something cute and trendy! See you tomorrow!

The paper bag shorts of course look cute on you! I doubt I will be sporting the shorts or the longer pants in that type of waist. I probably shouldn’t say that without trying them on but I’m thinking I probably won’t like how they look on me 😉 That skort color is so pretty and the top is perfect with it. Why do they not make many blouses with collars any more? Boy they are hard to find and I like me a collar. We do not have a Belk but that is a great sale when you can get free items. Will you be having Barry style his purchases for Father’s Day? A little overcast here this morning so guess I will get some muffins made.

I love shirts with collars too!! And they are hard to find, I don’t know why either cause they look so cute with cardigans!! That’s a great idea about getting Barry to style his clothes!! Maybe he will at least take one picture with me lol. I will try and get him to 😂🤞🏼fingers crossed!!

Nice color combo today. I don’t do paper bag waists but I can use this for inspiration. I’m loving the paisley skort too. I was a prep many years ago maybe that’s why I’m drawn to the last two looks. 😊

I would like to try some paper bag shorts but for me I would like them to be a little longer. My favorite outfit today is the one with the Skort. It is sooo cute and I love the color of the shirt and that is has a collar. I hope you are having a good week so far! 🙂

Beverly and Kelly Palmer I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one that likes collard blouses! Beverly I hope you can talk Barry into modeling one of his outfits or like you said…at least a photo with the two of you…that would be fun!
