Fall and Winter Hydration Tips From Head to Toe

Everywhere I look it seems “Fall is in the Air”! When the Fall and Winter coffee flavors come out, something seems to spark the desire to wear cardigans, scarves, and booties in me! And with that, comes cool nights, fire pits, and of course…new fall and winter dry skin woes! I thought I’d share with you some of the items I have been using lately, to help me jumpstart combating dry skin!

First and foremost, we have to remember our skin as the cooler weather comes in. The air is going to be dry and it can wreak havoc on our skin. My skin tends to get very dry in the winter and I have to work extra hard in combating it. For my body, I found a product by accident here recently that I am loving! I was in a local Dollar General and needed to pick up some lotion and I mistakenly picked up a diabetic lotion. I usually use Gold Bond Skin Resilience, but I picked up Gold Bond Diabetics Dry Skin Relief. I wasn’t taking it back, so I started using it and boy does it work! I could tell a difference in just a few days in how soft my legs and arms were. If you want to try something that is going to give you instant results then I suggest Active Hydration Body Replenishit delivers immediate and continuous body hydration and helps prevent future moisture loss, resulting in younger-looking, younger-acting skin. I put some on the back of my hand, just to see how it felt and instantly I could tell a difference in my skin. And when I put both hands beside each other – one hand looked firmer and younger than the other. Of course, I was like – Heck Yeah! This one was a definite keeper, so if you are looking something that will give you a more youthful appearance, I would look into this one. If you are on a tight budget, I would go with the Gold Bond Moisturizing line.  And don’t forget – we all know that we should moisturize our bodies after we shower, sometimes that is a challenge when you’re in a rush. However, if we don’t take time, it’s just more exfoliating we will be doing later!

For my face, I don’t skimp. I’ve said it before, we only have one face and it’s going to show just how much we invested in taking care of it each passing day. You guys know my skincare regimen, but one thing I haven’t shared is using boosters that work in conjunction with skincare products. I use the Active Hydration Serum because it’s oil-free and it raises my hydration level by 200% the first use and it maintained it for 8 hours! Once I did my background work and used it, this has been my go-to booster. And I’m certain it’s going to be a big help combating dry skin this winter. Let me say this, I have not been using this that long. I just started looking for products to help my dry skin this Fall and Winter, but so far, I am loving it and impressed with just how well it works. To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised!

Now that we have skin down pat, let’s talk about hair! With cooler weather, our hair tends to dry out more, plus using styling tools with heat doesn’t help either. No matter what time of the year, it is so very important to use a heat protectant when using styling tools. My favorite by far is Living Proof Instant Protection  which is a weightless spray that adds shine and polish while protecting against static and heat & UV damage. It’s so lightweight that it can be layered and combined with other styling products. Restore Instant Protection Spray provides:

  • Heat protection up to 450F/230C
  • 24-hour UV ray protection
  • Static control
  • Shine, smoothness and polish

Restore Instant Protection Spray is ideal for all hair types. It is silicone-free. Safe and formulated for color and chemically treated hair.

Other things that will help  to keep your hair from drying out remember these things:

  • Up your Vitamin C – helps combat cold and flu season too
  • Stay Hydrated – get your 64 ozs
  • Rub Coconut Oil on your scalp before you shampoo (massage it in for at least 2 minutes before shampoo)
  • Leaving your hair damp and going outside can cause major breakage, so make sure your hair is fully dry
  • Deep Condition your hair once a week, I like It’s a 10 Miracle Deep Conditioning Plus Keratin
  • Hydrate at night, pick an oil rich in Omega-3 fatty acids like baobab oil and smooth a bit into your hair every night. If you don’t already, wrap your hair in a silk scarf or wear a satin bonnet to protect both your hair and your pillowcase
  • Eat healthy fats. Add Salmon, avocado, and nuts to your diet
  • Humidifiers help, we keep one in our house all winter long, it helps with headaches also (sinuses or your nasal passages drying out)
  • Try not to wash your hair as often, at least shoot for every other day

Another thing that we tend to overlook is our feet and nails in the winter or colder seasons. The best thing I have found to protect and soothes dry skin for your feet – is CeraVe’ Healing Ointment. This stuff was hand delivered by God! If you haven’t tried it, go to your local Walmart and get you some!

To keep your nails and cuticles from drying out, use coconut oil on them. I keep the hard coconut oil (like lard- grandma used to have) in my kitchen to cook with. I always scoop some out and put in a little container for personal use. I massage it into my cuticles and all over my nail bed about every 2 days. If my hands feel really dry from washing them a lot, I use it more often. Aloe Oil is a great alternative too. The last thing I’m going to share (and I’ve shared this multiple times) PLEASE – take your vitamins!! The best vitamin for your hair, skin, and nails is Biotin! I get the Vitafusion Extra Strength Biotin Gummies from Amazon, I’ve been using this for well over a year and seen a tremendous change not only in my hair but my nails too! A win-win!!

I hope this helps all of you lovely ladies this Fall and Winter. I’d love to hear your tips for combating the cold and drier weather! Scroll all the way down and leave a comment! Stay safe and I will chat with you soon!!
