Styling Booties With Skinny Jeans

Happy Saturday everyone! We finally have a cool front coming through and I’m sure a lot of ladies here will be bringing out the booties today. When that first good chill of the year comes in, we don’t hold back at all…sweaters, booties, even scarves…all things Fall!

I thought I would share a post I posted last Fall, but I updated it quite a bit for newer trends. All about how to wear booties with skinny jeans. A lot of women ask these questions, so I am more than happy to share what I learned while in the Fashion Industry. Who’s wearing booties now? I bet some of you are wearing scarves too…I’m jealous over that – I LOVE a scarf! Let’s get started!

What length should my jeans be?

First, your jeans need to be the right length. I recommend ones that hit midway down the ankle. This way they aren’t too long that there’s extra fabric, or too short that you can’t have some fun rolling them. I would not wear jeans that are too short for boots for this look- you got to have a little bit of length on them to pull this look off.

Should you wear socks?

The sock I like to wear are the ankle socks. Don’t overthink it, wear darker ones just in case you sock peeks from your lower booties. Definitely wear socks though, it will make a huge difference when you take those booties off you’ve been wearing the entire day! Trust me on this! You could spend a lot of money on socks and there are some great ones out there, but I normally get mine from Walmart, but only the ones that are reinforced at the arch. I like these.

Skinny Jeans & Booties- What Now?

Option A:
If your jeans are the right length, you should be able to wear them with your ankle boots without rolling them. Just pull the jeans all the way down so any extra fabric is scrunched at the bottom. Let the jeans fall casually onto the boot – some of it might fall inside the boot, some may be left outside. Just a sliver of skin should show. If your jeans are the right length, they will look fine. This look seems to be one of the most popular!

Option B:
If you are going to rok the new frayed hem look, I would suggest having the length hit no more than an inch above the boot These jeans are made for this look and you should have no problem finding the fit and look you like. Booties are trending with V-cuts now and the ragged hem is perfect for this look!

Option C:
Another trend is to wear booties with skinny jeans is to roll the bottom of the jeans twice with a cuff, or called a small rolled cuff. I have talked about this many times on the blog, I use my thumb as a measuring tool, I hold my jean hem and roll up to mid thumb if I am doing a second cuff – I roll it again to make them even. You can cuff these jeans anyway you want to, I am the biggest fan of a smaller cuff. In the picture below, the model wore higher socks – it looks like this would work well in colder regions, especially with a more rugged boot.

Option D:
Here is my personal favorite way is rolling the cuff of the jeans once. If your jeans are too long, this won’t work – the cuff should be no more than 2 inches. Leave just an inch showing above the boot. Plus, I hear some ladies complain they don’t like their “white -untanned legs” showing, so this option would work great for you if you are self-conscious of your skin showing.

**For this look: I use my thumb as a measuring tool. As I roll my cuff, when the hem comes up around my thumb I normally stop halfway up the length of my thumb. There are no rules, if you want a bigger cuff – roll on baby!

Here’s how you shouldn’t wear booties with skinny jeans. Avoid pulling the jeans over the boots so that no skin shows. This may just be a personal preference, but I’m just not a fan of this look. Although people do tuck their jeans in their ankle boots – and that’s fine, but if you want to keep up with the trends, you’re gonna have to let the old style go. But keep in mind – there is NO wrong way to wear your jeans with booties! Like I say all the time…BE YOU!

My Looks

Remember ladies, if you are in doubt, cuff your jeans just once and you have hit the jackpot! There really is no wrong way to wear your jeans with booties – we all have on our style and flare. But if you are looking to stick with the trends, these ideas may help!

I hope this has helped someone, I know that sometimes it’s hard to get that “look” on ourselves – looks great on someone else, but we feel we just can’t pull it off. Well, you can! If in doubt just cuff that hem up once and you will still be rocking it!

Thanks for stopping by the blog and I hope each and every one of you has a wonderful weekend! We are having a Fall Festival called “Denim Days” (we were once the capital of denim in the US—how about that?!). Brooklyn and I will be checking out all the festivities since everyone else is working. XOXO!!

Do you cuff or not cuff?
