Top 4 Setting Sprays for Over 40 Skin
Happy Tuesday morning! As I was getting ready for work yesterday the thought crossed my mind – I wonder how many women DON’T use a setting spray?? Are you using a setting spray to set your makeup in the morning? Are you using a primer on your face BEFORE you apply your foundation? If not – you are not alone!
I never started using a primer until I was 38ish and honestly, I could have cared less way back then. But as I got older, I knew I needed something to prepare my skin for my foundation. And I needed something to keep my makeup on all day long. At first, I tried a few drugstore brands and they were ok, but I quickly realized with makeup – you get what you pay for.
What to Look For In a Setting Spray
Dry Skin
If you have dry skin, look for sprays that promise moisture or a dewy finish. This will keep your skin from looking dull and flaky in addition to keeping your makeup in place. Alternatively, if you have combination or oily skin, look for an oil control or matte finish setting spray to keep your makeup from smearing and becoming shiny throughout the day.
You’ll want to look for a lightweight, non-sticky product. If you’re sensitive to scented makeup, be cautious!! Some setting sprays have strong scents that are very hit-or-miss: some love them, others hate them. When purchasing a setting spray, test it to see if you like the scent. If you are ordering online, read the reviews. I never buy a makeup product without checking the rating and reading the reviews from other women.
My Pick in Setting Sprays for Dry Skin
I actually have two favorites for Dry Skin. First up is the NYX Makeup Setting Spray -Dewy Finish. I have been raving for the past few months about the NYX products I have been using to review for Influenster and boy – I am LOVING THEM!!!
Second on the list is Limelife by Alcone Timesetter Setting Spray. I used this one for well over a year and it is an all time favorite! This specialized, fine mist prevents makeup from settling into fine lines and creasing to give you a more youthful, professional look. It extends makeup wear, prevents transfer, and creates a soft, matte finish. For over 40 skin, this is an exceptional product, while it’s on your skin it is working all day on reversing the aging process. Giving it the reputation of taking 10 years off
Oily and Combination Skin
My personal favorite setting spray, NYX Makeup Setting Spray -Matte Finish, this product gives you a shine-free matte finish and keeps your makeup in place all day. The low price is definitely a plus as well. I’ve been using this for a few months and I can personally tell you, it LASTS all day long and will not smudge. Holds your makeup in place from the time you spray it till you take it off at night.
Coming in 2nd place is Oil Stike Perfect Matte Setting Spray by Limelife by Alcone. This specialized, fine mist absorbs excess oil to ensure evenly set makeup that will not crease, cake, or transfer. The result is a soft, matte, oil-free look for up to 16 hours. I use this one when I’m out of the NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray, and YES ladies, it gives you a perfect matte finish!
