6 Do’s and Don’ts of Wearing Animal Prints After 40

Animal prints over 40 can be a little intimidating some times. How do you style this trend in a chic, trendy way after 40? Here are a few tips on how to wear animal prints at any age.

1. WEAR ANIMAL PRINTS CAUTIOUSLY

A small amount of animal print can be chic, but too much of it can be overwhelming, at any age. Be stingy with animal prints and live by the ONE ANIMAL RULE.

If you are new to animal prints, then try wearing them by going with one accessory? A shoe or a bag lets you ease into animal prints and will jazz up a plain outfit and look super cute and trendy.

2. DON’T MIX ANIMAL PRINTS – LESS IS MORE!

Stick with one print per outfit. You don’t want to look out of balance and wearing more than one animal print can do just that. It is very rare that someone can pull off two or more animal prints, the majority of us struggle with one print. When wearing more than one animal print it can give the illusion of an outfit that is WAY too busy. That is one of the biggest fears I hear, “Is this too much?”- always look chic and classic easily! Years in the fashion industry have taught me many do’s and don’ts of prints, accessories and more.

3. CHOOSE CLASSIC LINES

Animal prints are wild and busy, so you need to choose your pieces with clean lines if you want to look elegant and well put together. A leopard print blouse, jeans, pencil skirt, a cardigan, or snake print pumps are all good examples of this. Remember, when in doubt, less is always more! Note the picture below, the neutral heels and blouse give this outfit a classic look. Clean lines are straight lines, think linear or vertical lines when wearing animal print.

4. PAIR ANIMAL PRINTS WITH SOLID COLORS

Animal prints should be worn with solid colors so the print is the main focus. Don’t wear animal prints with other patterns.

You’ll never go wrong wearing an animal print with a solid neutral color like white, black, brown, khaki or taupe. For example, try a leopard print blouse with white pants or wear an all beige/camel outfit with cheetah flats, a scarf or a belt. The neutral colors will give you a classic and chic look!

What about color? A gorgeous shade of red, green, orange, cobalt blue and denim also can be a gorgeous color combo when worn with animal prints.

5. KEEP ACCESSORIES SIMPLE AND CLASSIC

An animal print is a strong focal point, so you don’t need to overwork your look by adding a bunch of bling to your outfit. Keep it simple! We are going for a chic and classic, well-put-together look; adding big accessories will defeat this in a matter of seconds.

6. CAMOFLAUGING PROBLEM AREAS

Animal prints catch the eyes, which means that an animal print worn over the heaviest part of your body will draw the eye there. If you do not want eyes drawn to body parts that you are trying to camouflage then avoid that area. If you are bottom-heavy and want to hide that area or make it appear smaller then opt for darker colors for that area. Add your animal print as an accessory or a gorgeous cheetah blouse. Balance is the key!

WHAT ABOUT ANIMAL PRINT ACCESSORIES??

These few steps will help to complete your outfit, and I know most of you are rocking some animal print! Especially accessories! Who doesn’t love some accessories!! Especially when a little leopard, cheetah, snake print or zebra is thrown in the mix! For example, these cute loafers are perfect with denim jeans and a cute black blouse. Add some color with a red or green scarf! See similar loafers here.

Glad to see that you were able to fix the comment issue, yay!! I was wondering if these rules would also apply to camo? I am hanging out here at home with Troy today. He is still on the mend. I am feeling nasty and feel somewhat flu-ish myself but since I had the flu in November I am hoping that it will be a milder case. Hope you are having a great day!

Oh gosh, I hope you’re not getting sick! I personally do not mix Camo colors, so I think it would work for that too!! Get better soon ❤️❤️❤️
